• Nahid Islam home district Renowned student leader and political activist Nahid Islam from Bangladesh comes from Dhaka,

• Joseph Higher Secondary School then went on to Government Science College in Tejgaon for his Higher Secondary Certificate. After that, he registered at the University of Dhaka’s Department of Sociology,
• where he finished his bachelor’s degree with a thesis on the reasons for the collapse of Bangladeshi student movements.
• He became a major leader of the Gonotantrik Chhatra Shakti,

• Dhaka became the center of major political unrest in middle of 2024. Leading demonstrations for changes in the government’s job quota system, Nahid coordinated the Anti-discrimination Students Movement. Rising quickly, the movement developed into a larger campaign calling for the 15-year Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign. Participating in a great number of students and people, the demonstrations were characterized by violent clashes that resulted in about 300 deaths mostly among students. Nahid stayed strong and kept guiding the movement even after the police arrested and mistreated him. His relentless dedication paid off when Hasina resigned and then fled to India in August 2024.
• Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus led an interim government set up following the fall of the government. Acknowledging Nahid’s major contribution to the cause, on August 9, 2024 he was assigned an adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. On August 16 a week later,
• he also took on the position of adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Still, Nahid’s time in the temporary government was fleeting. He left his advisory roles on February 25, 2025 to head the newly founded National Citizen Party,
• a political organization founded by the Jatiya Nagorik Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Nahid said he thought his efforts would be more effective on the streets, interacting personally with the people, than inside the boundaries of official positions.
